Hotel babylon . . .

Throughout the scene there is ethnicity shown which convey what the characters are like and how they act. Ethnicity is the cultural values and norms which distinguish the members of a given group from others. An ethnic group is one whose members share a distinct awareness of a common cultural identity, separating them from other groups around them. This used to portray the characters personality and their attitide's.
The scene was in a hotel which shows a rich atmosphere and at first there is a old man sitting on a wheelchair, the black guy goes to him and give's him something which shows respect and shows his personality is represented in a positive way. There is a long shot of the black man walking towards the otherside, the other black man comes out of the swimming pool and starts talking to the guy which showed they were close to one another, however the guy that was wearing the suit he was in such a hurry and he also looked 'gay'this is because of the way his body gesture was shown and he says to the guy your looking good which portrays that he was intrested in him.

We are the introduced to two french maids as the next stereotypes to ethnicity. The scene opens with a mid-shot and this ables us to recognise their occupations as they have their work trolleys. The man on the bed, he was all quiet he said nothing and the background atmosphere was quiet, however the way he was staring at the two cleaners trying to take their clothes he didnt say a word he just glared at them loud music is played. The female's appear to dominate the hotel, the majority of high status workers in the hotel are mainly female's, they lack the male role's.The ethnicity is shown by their accents. Their is a high angle shots shown throughout the scene which represents a high dominence, the low angle shots shows the characters as a weak and low status, but mainly there was medium shots used throughout the scene.
Non diagetic sound was used to represent the tension that was building and the editing was used throughout the scene to create a smooth effect.

In conclusion, ethnicity is very clearly represented in the clip by using stereotypes which are usually associated with a certain type of ethnic.

Blackpool Anlysis . . .

Most films, The opening scene always focus on the mise en  scene, camera, editing and sound these showed the representation that it created. In this following analysis of the opening scene, it will focus on the main four area's.
Camera; the craneshot was used to portray the revealing of the scene to make it look intresting. At first a medium close up of the two cuples talking, then a close up of a man. A long shot of the family sitting around the table. There was also a reverse shot when it went to one shot to another, focusing on the man then women . The closeness of the family, a wiseshot of them. The father looking at the boyfriend from the edge which was a overshoulder shot, therefor it includes two people.
In some shots husand/wife are seperate which suggests their relation is not close which show a weak bond between them. The several shots of the boyfriend and the daughter together portray they have a strong bond for one another. the husband/wife in bed showed a wide shot of the two couple's, a medium shot; his shows theirs some distance from them and when the women kisse's the guys shoulder, the guy smile's and turns his head around which shows he wasnt bothered and intrested.
Sound; At the begining we hear conversation's and the door banging, the sound of footsteps, the natural movement between the sheets, shouting and the sarcastic laugh. The conversation we link it to too the relationship, windchaws filled the awkward moments and also the noises of footsteps and the birds suggested their relationship was not stable at all. In the opening scene, the dad was honest, very confident/offrotive, he had power which showed he was controlling whereas the mum, she was calm, layed back, her tone was soft, the dad never goes over her words, alwasy listen's to her and is the bridge to the husband and daughter. You could hear the guy's anger which showed age, he's sarcastic with his joke's which suggest's he's up himself.
Mise en Scene; The clothing, the both couple's wearing pink shows their not modern, their outfits co-ordinate with one another and through the colour of their clothing portray their couple's and their dresssed a little younger than their age. Therefor the aughter was aged much older than her age, wasnt dressed like a teenager, she was wearing a suit which made her look smart whereas her boyfriend was dressed casual and relaxed, his jeans suggested he's dressed younger which showed a mild age. The colour of their clothing was dull and normal which show they've switch role's with their parent. However their house is not modern. The room is decorated and it shows their in a higher class. The non-verbal language; the father is looking down at steve and his hands are in his pockets which suggest he doesnt want to shake hands, his body gesture showed he wanst bothered.
Editing; Each character get a close up of themselve's throughout the opening scene which show identity and it also show their reaction to one another. The husband and wife are not closse to one another because in the scene theirs not m uch shots of them together whereas the boyfriend and girlfriend are close because there are several shot of them with one another which show they have a strong bond between them.
However  the mise en scene as overall presentation of the scene and it way of defining age, family and relationship. lighting would be something that is played with to reveal characters, their expressions and emotions, this helps the audience to understand them and define the representation of age, family and relationship between the family. In addition the couple's in the film, their relation is strong but whereas them as a family they have problems with getting along with one another which show a weak bond.

Aural language . . .

what we heard in the opening sequence of the film;

- birds tweeting
- tracktor coming on
- roaring of the lion/tiger
- barking of the dog
- the gun shot

How gender is shown . . .?

There is a blonde women, she had a big tracktor, was driving it.
this was shown by her asociation to the guy, she was strong, pro-active, confident, brave, dependant and she was seen as a bold women.
The gender in this film was shown by the women she had alot of power a nd strength, the guy was in  need for the girls help, so it showed in this film the roles were shown reserved this is because the guy was attacked by the tooth tiger so the girl showed her power and helped the man. There is also a use of all diagetic sounds used throughout the film. These were used to show the tension, what is happening throughout the film and to engage peoples intensions to whats been shown.
In this film the protagonist the man and the women is the helper which shows the women has more strength.

Down with love; Opening scene [Nine.Shots]

This shot looks really amazing, the film is set in a beautiful atmosphere, the background, blue suggests a clear, bright day and the buildings/houses look big and the atmosphere looks rich.

This shot looks rich, the building looks beautiful and that it also can mean taht if anyone goes to it they will have an amazing time, its the most biggest building and in the scene; they say if you come here then you can fulfill your dreams and that many people go there just to fulfill their dreams and desire's, sounds interesting.

This shot shows a big crowd of people trying to pass by, the police looks like he is stopping cars and letting them go because of the amount of traffic and rush. This shot is also suggesting that this amount of people go to the place where you can fulfill your dreams its trying to convey that lot of people go for example, eight million which seems a lot. The dream place seems well known.

This shot shows four people on the lift, they look so interested to what is above them, the one in middle looks like she's frustrated and the man on the left with the glasses looks scared and worried.the one in the middle also  looks posh, the lady with the brown hat, she looks really amused to what she is seeing. However the way all of their eyes are in different positions and all have different reactions to what their seeing, this can show their looking at the numbers that go from 5,4,3,2,1, and their ready to get off at the number their going to stop at so their focus is on the numbers above them this can also show their attention is not elsewhere but towards the lifts number which show that they were all in a rush to get out first because their was a massive crowd.

This shot is of a women coming out of the lift and she is smoking, her flames of smoke is everywhere, all we see in this image is white clouds of smoke blown towards her face which can show a dull/blurry atmosphere.
